How to Prepare for Your Photo Session

Session Flow

My goal during our session is to capture your family more candidly and organically. I search for details, connections, emotion, and features to highlight that touch your heart. There will be many times that I just want you to be yourselves! Look at your children. Talk to your children. Connect with your children during the session. Let them be little and connect with nature or each other. We will get some traditionally posed photos throughout the session, but the most beautiful smiles and images will come more naturally. I will help guide you along the way with prompts and fun games, as well as, just let you interact with each other and relax. The more relaxed you are during the session, the more you will love your photos!

Sunset and Sunrise Times
Since the time around sunset and sunrise is the most magical for photographs, your lifestyle session will be during these times. We will meet within the hour before sunset or within the hour after sunrise. Sunset and sunrise times vary depending on the time of the year.

Weather
I will keep an eye on the weather and radar on the day of your session. Cloudy days can still produce beautiful images. We won't shoot if it's raining; however, there are some rainy days when the sun will come out right before sunset and give the most beautiful light! We will work together to determine what's best for you.

What to Wear

Coordinating is in, matching is out! I suggest starting with mom or the youngest family member. Choose a texture or pattern, and then pull colors from that outfit for the rest of the family. Rich, bold colors can produce stunning images, especially for outdoor sessions. Mustard yellow, red, coral, burnt orange, blue, and light pink are examples of colors that can add some extra beauty to your images!

(Please note, I do have a CLIENT CLOSET of dresses for women and girls! Wearing dresses from the client closet is included in your photo session fee, so please let me know if you’re interested.)

On the other hand, you could go for more natural and neutral colors, like creams and tans. This brings a clean and classic touch to your golden light session! For children, be sure their clothes FIT WELL or are even a touch too small. Clothes that are too big or baggy don't photograph as well. Avoid clothing with numbers, logos, and sayings on them. Wear clothes that are comfortable and don't require adjusting multiple times throughout the session. For moms or young girls, a long flowing dress or skirt can add dreaminess to your photos. Please feel free to contact me anytime for wardrobe questions or suggestions. BUT, above all, just BE YOURSELF!
